a glimpse of a year

succulents, propagation, plants, nature, beautiful

i won’t be having the perfect new year’s. i’ll be coming straight from work to a local greek restaurant where my family and a band will be waiting, to bid the old year goodbye. most likely, i’ll slip on my … Continue reading

all snowed in

fireplace, snow day, writing, blogging, writer's block, midwest, crazy indiana weather, warm by the fire

since my stateside return, i can happily proclaim that i am okay. i have been using this last month to purge the things that i don’t need and grasp even more tightly, the things people that i do. i have … Continue reading

this past sunday and monday was the notting hill carnival. it was raunchy, loud, a tiny bit filthy and absolutely amazing. the carnival is a celebration of caribbean culture, food, and music. standard.co.uk i spent the first three-ish hours totally alone. … Continue reading

& after

i am super sick right now. i really felt it coming about two days ago so while yesterday should have been a day of preventative rest, it was not. my dad is in town and we met up at canary wharf {after getting my highlights} then hopped the dlr [docklands light railway] to greenwich and wandered around the market. it was bubbly and delicious like always but i could tell as the day wore on, that i was in for a terrible time. now i am weak, coughing, and have the worst headache. there are enough dirty tissues all over my room to stuff a dead elephant and i’m finding it hard to even breathe.
despite all of this, today is car boot sale day and i still want to go treasure hunting. luckily, anna wants to go as well despite not having slept yet {ready for a crazy statement? her and my father went to fabric last night} – i would have been there if not for my already pounding headache. i certainly didn’t need any more bass coming from the floors. even though the music isn’t exactly “their thing” {or mine for that matter} they still managed to meet a lot of people from all around the world, and have a great time.
i couldn’t handle that last night but i can definitely handle some fresh air and a trip to the boot sale. maybe i’ll even find the energy to post pictures of what i find. maybe

“40 days of dating”

the project, 40 days of dating

i absolutely must share this project that i have been following for about a week now. basically, two friends who both have their own relationship-related downfalls and weaknesses, have started a 40-day long dating experiment. their project website is like … Continue reading

home sweet hampstead

old map of hampstead, london, old maps

i was told, on my recent {and only} voyage to hampstead in london, that the land was originally and primarily used for pig farming. i was also informed that shortly after the pig farming-era, it was transformed into a sort … Continue reading

four countries. one week.

if we die, then we die. but for now, we’ll live. (or something like that)

well, game of thrones is getting better and better and my blogging seems to be getting worse and worse. when i first began this project, i vowed pretty much in blood to not allow myself to slack off. not anytime. not for any reason. with that said, i’ve got a plethora of reasons for my aloofness of weeks past. this list contains but is not limited to. . .

  • i’m caring for a baby. this is not an easy thing to do and it takes long hours, lots of practice, and the ability to mentally recover from being shat on, puked on, screamed at, scratched {by vicious little fingernails}, farted on, sneezed on, and cried for. all in a day’s work. and sometimes at the same time but in different variations, ie: today, i was feeding baby and while doing so, he was shitting on my leg. {not on my leg but i could feel the explosive warmth through my pants} not only was he shitting whilst eating, he was also burping, farting, and squealing/screaming, all at the same time. he didn’t seem to be very happy about any of it. and i don’t blame him- babies shouldn’t be expected to multitask like that!
anyway, these things happen to me all the time and the booger (baby) wears me out.
all i want to do at the end of a long day is write about it but all i can do is pass out as physically close to my bed as i can get.

  • i just traveled to four countries in one week. seriously, this happened! as you know from my last post, i met my family in barbados and spent an amazing 2 1/2 weeks preparing for dreary london weather soaking in the glorious sunshine. we left barbados near the end of april and after briefly uttering my hello!’s to london, i bid it a temporary farewell and traveled with an even larger family group on trains through france and germany.

    family in heidelberg

    {my oldest cousin peter, and his little family in heidelberg – they joined us from orlando}

  • london has got me all t w i t t e r p a t e d. there is so much glorious fun to get into. not to mention, i’m still reflecting and recovering from my most recent adventure to heidelberg and paris. [blog post to come] i have also put a lot of my time into planning my adventures over the next few months. they include shows, car boot sales, and maybe a little lot of couchsurfing. my cs profile is updated and ready to go, and i already have plans to attend a west london meeting at a pub next week. if you have not heard of couchsurfing, i implore you to sign up–> adventure awaits! as for shows, i am contemplating a rather impressive lineup at the latitude music festival, more than a few names have whet my appetite… modest mouse, beach house, james blake, the tallest man on earth, local natives, grizzly bear {must i go on?} the only way for me to attend [besides saving a hell of a lotta £££] is by finding likeminds in london who are wanting to go as well and need a travel buddy. thank god for couchsurfing. and now the search begins..are you going??? 🙂

in other news, when i went to check my email account on aol, a swanky-sounding british gal chimed “you have email.
i suppose i’ll have to whisper my temporary goodbyes to “you’ve got mail.”

it’s the little things.
